Report from 20 to 22 October 2024

Of late, I have not really kept up the weekly schedule of the reports from La Cassinazza. This isn’t so much a reflection of my absence –
though I have been away some – but rather because several of my visits to La Cassinazza came on days of endless rain, which made
birdwatching useless. And it has to be said, this year’s fall migration has been quite meagre. So, having nothing to say, it’s best to say
nothing.
In recent days, the first Song Thrushes, Siskins, Bramblings, Meadow Pipits and Black Redstarts of the fall have arrived, along with the
Reed Buntings, which I see mostly in the late afternoon, as they return to the reedbed to roost.
Robins and Chiffchaffs are still the most conspicuous species. There has been an evident movement of Chaffinches, and albeit in much
smaller numbers, of White Wagtails and Firecrests as well. The latter is the subject of today’s photo.
